No. A licensed bet in Brazil cannot accept a deposit by credit card. Art. 3 §2 VII of Portaria Normativa SPA/MF 615/2024 forbids the operator from taking funds via “cartões de crédito ou quaisquer outros instrumentos de pagamento pós-pagos”, so any post-paid instrument is out. Deposits move only by Pix, TED, debit or prepaid card, or book transfer.

That has been the answer to can I use a credit card to deposit on a licensed bet in Brazil since the ordinance was published in April 2024. This desk read the ordinance as republished by Normas Brasil, and the SPA’s legislation index, on 19 September 2026.

The caput of Art. 3 confines deposits, withdrawals and prizes to electronic transfer between the bettor’s conta cadastrada and the operator’s conta transacional, both at institutions authorised by the Banco Central do Brasil. §1 names four rails; §2 lists eight bars.

A debit or prepaid card is fine; a credit card is not.

What payment methods are allowed for betting in Brazil?

Four, per Art. 3 §1 as read: Pix, TED, debit or prepaid card, and book transfer where both accounts sit at the same institution. Each must run between an account in the bettor’s own name (conta cadastrada) and the operator’s transactional account, both at institutions authorised by the Banco Central do Brasil.

Art. 2 II defines the conta cadastrada as an account “de titularidade do apostador”; items V and VI are the deposit-side mirror, refusing someone else’s account or one you never registered. Money coming back out has its own clock: see how long a bet has to pay a withdrawal.

Is Pix mandatory for Brazilian betting sites?

No. The ordinance permits Pix; it does not require it. §1 lists Pix as one of four rails alongside TED, debit or prepaid card and book transfer, and nothing in Art. 3 as read obliges an operator to offer any particular one. Pix is the only instant rail on the list, which is why it tends to dominate the cashier in practice. Our Pix at the cashier review found the same.

Can Brazilian bets accept crypto deposits?

No. Item IV of Art. 3 §2 names ativos virtuais ou outros tipos de criptoativos, virtual assets or other kinds of crypto-assets, among the means a licensed operator may not accept. Item VIII then bars any electronic-transfer alternative not listed in §1, so a stablecoin routed through a payment gateway is caught twice.

The bans nobody prints: §3 and §4

§3 bars institutions not authorised by the Banco Central from intermediating payments between bettor and operator; the BCB’s side of that rail is in our Resolução BCB 569 review. §4 adds four operator-side bans: I, no bets before the deposit settles; II, no advance, bonus or prior advantage, even as promotion; III, no partnership or contract to facilitate a bettor’s access to credit or fomento mercantil (factoring); IV, no giving access, through its shop or channels, to anyone who grants credit to bettors.

Has Art. 3 changed since 2024?

Not on the record checked: the SPA’s legislation index, read 19 September 2026, dates the ordinance 16 April 2024; Normas Brasil adds DOU publication on 18 April 2024. Of the index entries returned for “615”, one amends it, Portaria SPA/MF nº 1.207 of 29 July 2024, listed as altering art. 2º; none names Art. 3. An evergreen reading of a standing rule, not news of a change.
